Question Re Being HS Captain of a Spring Sport

I am a public hs jr who’s played Varsity Baseball since Freshmen year. I think I have a good shot of being elected team captain for senior year. I think this would be good on my college apps. But since they don’t elect spring team captains until March-April of sr year, it wouldn’t go on my apps by deadline, like a football/basketball captain could. Friend at Deerfield says all prep school spring sport captains are elected AT THE END OF THE CURRENT SEASON. Not just so they can put it on their apps, but so that they can make an action plan for leadership. Do other PUBLIC high schools elect captains at the end of the current season? Just seems so obvious. Any guidance here?

Our captains are not elected they are appointed by the coach. Some coaches announce well before the season, some wait.

You could send it in as part of a message to your admissions rep. Talk about your continued interest, how well youre doing in everything, and that youre now captain of your team.

Yep, it is a negative of playing a spring sport that you won’t know if you’ll be captain until long after apps are in. However, as @shafthalf says, it gives you a good reason to contact the schools you are interested in in the spring.

It really doesn’t matter that much. Captain is a nice leadership box to check off, but it is not going to change your admissions chances that much.
