So I'm trying to finalize my course selections (not that I can register before January, but whatever) and I'm trying to figure out if courses typically run right up to the last minute, or if instructors let out a bit early/start a few minutes late to let students move across campus. I have everything mapped out perfectly, but it's a little confusing since most classes seem to start and stop around the same time and at the same increments. If I have a class scheduled to end at 12:30, is it safe to schedule my next class as one that starts at 12:30?

the professors will end class 10 minutes early, so you’ll be out by 12:20. unless your walk to the next class is extremely far, go ahead and schedule your classes back to back. your 12:30 class will start at 12:30 though.

If you can avoid it, don’t schedule another class right after a class that you might need to stay and ask questions afterwards for (math?). Not that the professor will stay around for a long time, but in the example above, your prof might stay there til 12:30 answering questions and if you can avoid rushing out, it is helpful. (The professors do have office hours though - it’s not like right after class is your only time - or the best time - to ask questions.)

But it’s really awkward to have a bunch of 1 hour breaks between classes. One for lunch is cool, but otherwise you’ll find that you just end up wasting a lot of time.

I keep mine back-to-back, that way it feels like the school part of the day is so much shorter.

this semester I had classes back-to-back (3 in a row) all over campus, and I was only late to one of them once when an exam ran over (but if you have a professor who cares, they are usually understanding if that happens). Honestly, it was nice to be finished with my classes quickly instead of having breaks in between every one, but that is all up to personal preference.
