I asked this on the common app forum, but I did not receive an answer. What is the time limit for the music supplement for the common app? And what is the format for sending it? Is it just a CD?

My ds is a pianist. He's not sure if he wants to pursue music performance as a degree or not, but regardless he will send a music supplement in for the common app. The challenge is that his pieces are getting longer and longer and longer!! I am wondering if he needs to keep some shorter works up to snuff if there is a time limit on the common app music supplement.

We called admissions and asked if they would like a cue for what my daughter considered her best 3 minutes, on the CD. They appreciated it apparently. I doubt anyone even listened to it for that long, honestly.

Is your son auditioning anywhere or doing the common app only?

He will likely do both. I think he will audition at some places, but may also apply to some schools solely on academics. He is just not sure which direction he wants to go. He is a pretty high stats kid, and there may be some schools he wants to apply to NOT for music performance.

According to the supplement itself, it says that you should have approximately 10 mins of music in your supplement, plus a recommendation from your teacher. At least that’s what it said in my art supplement for voice.
