If you receive an invite to the Fellows weekend so you also have to attend the Spring Orientation? When do they let you know if you have been invited to Fellows? Thanks!

Fellows weekend covers everything that they cover at orientation, so the answer is that you do not attend both (unless you want to meet more future classmates). But most just attend fellows weekend if invited.

When do you need to let them know??? - I don’t know but surprised that the invitation letter doesn’t say. I’m sure it’s more info to follow.

PS: Congratulations

Thank you ncmentor!

Have invitations for fellows weekend already gone out? I thought the kids had to apply first.

Invites to Fellows weekend come in February I think; way before both that and the Orientation weekend though…

The only real difference between them from what I have heard from students who have attended both is that the Fellows weekend attracts students who may or may not ultimately attend while Orientation tends to gravitate towards those who have already deposited…(With the assumption they will definitely be attending but YMMV in that some people are accepted to other schools RD that they choose to attend instead)

Rodney is correct. It is a competition weekend and orientation/recruitment. The piece that was missed during fellows was a workshop on how to sign up for classes and the ability to get Phx card. The card you can get before and during the fall orientation. The schedule info your child can get from someone that goes to the regular orientation.

There were 4 different Facebook groups that the kids started and they shared a bunch of info. Tell your child to look on FB.

Invites to fellows came out 3-4 seeks before the weekend. Great weekend to meet kids and other parents.

Phx card? My D has not received an invite to Fellows weekend however I am trying to plan/budget transportation…I am not sure if she should attend both orientation and Fellows (assuming she gets a Fellows invite)…either way she will attend Elon in the Fall…any thoughts on this from other parents?

D is a freshman this year. She attended Fellows weekend, but only the Friday night/Saturday portion; she was unable to attend the Friday afternoon session due to a high school event. We did NOT attend an additional orientation. Honestly we didn’t feel that we missed out on anything by not doing the additional orientation. Elon does a fabulous job orienting the students during the Move In orientation which lasts from Friday-Monday when the new students move in at the end of August. As far as the signing up for classes piece, she did miss out on that, but the paperwork that was mailed to us prior to the opening date for sign up was totally self-explanatory and we also were able to call the academic advising office for additional info and the dean of the fellow program which she’s in; they were both super helpful!

Phx card is the id card that they can attach to a credit card as well as gets them in to their dorm bldg. Pic id. Don’t worry , a student can get them in the fall and at anytime they lose them during the year!

momofboston, my understanding is that Fellows Weekend doubles as a Spring Orientation for fellows candidates. There would be no need to attend both. In addition, the spring orientations are optional - all students will have a mandatory orientation that lasts 3 - 4 days in late August when they move in. I would not budget to attend 2 weekends this spring.

But if you’re budgeting ahead, do plan to stay overnight at move-in. Freshmen will move in on one day (usually Friday I think?) and the following morning will be New Student Convocation. This is an event for both students and parents and is not to be missed. It’s held outside “under the oaks” where graduation is also held (weather permitting) and the two ceremonies serve as very meaningful bookends to a family’s Elon experience.
