Question regarding admissions and commitment/seat reservation.

So I’m kinda confused about how this wholes system works, So currently I got a acceptance from hunter college and how it tells me to accept their offer to reserve a seat and to pay a deposit by may 1st. One question is since I have already accepted their offer on cunyfirst does that meant I’m locked into Hunter now? or does it just mean they have currently reserved a seat for me until I pay the deposit or not? As currently im waiting on acceptance/rejection of two other colleges, my other question would be say if I got into another college and accept their offer and also pay the commitment deposit do I need to tell hunter admissions to reject my acceptance. Also is this ethical or not?

Currently havent payed any commitment deposits.

So if i do get a acceptance from another college and choose to accept theirs is it possible for me to back out of hunters acceptance? since i already accepted hunters offer
kinda stressing over this.

You don’t need to be stressing. If you don’t send in your $100 by May 1 you lose your seat. Simple.

In the meantime if you get more offers you don’t have to reply until the commitment date, so if you aren’t sure, don’t accept it: wait until you have all your choices. Then, make your decision and send the lucky winner their $100.

As soon as you are sure that you aren’t going to accept an offer, it’s good manners to send back the ‘no’ response asap.

thank you for helping with that kinda stressed me out earlier making me think I did something really wrong.
So how do I reply back to hunter though? Since I did accept the offer on cunyfirst, but I havent payed the commitment deposit. Should I just send a email saying I got a better offer and that they should rescind it?

The basic thing is you don’t have to do anything until just before May 1. By mid april you should have all your acceptances/rejections. You may be invited to Admitted Students Day as the colleges so you can visit again if you want to help you make up your mind. By before May 1, you should choose the college you want to attend and pay a deposit.

Keep in mind that each college wants you to pick them…so they may say things that imply you should accept them now…they may also have priority for housing if you accept their offer.

Don’t send anything to Hunter. In fact, if you change your mind and decide you want to go to Hunter, you can still change your mind with no penalty. Since it is before May 1, you are not committed to your choice. You probably can’t then change your mind back to CUNY, though.

Colleges are not expecting you to respond to them at this point. Just wait until you hear from all the colleges, make your decision, and then before May 1 tell the college you want to attend that you will attend and then you can tell the others you won’t be attending.
