If you manage to do well enough on an AP exam to earn credits, will it affect your GPA?

no, you just won't take the class that the AP test excuses you from and therefore will not factor towards your GPA because you're not actually taking a class.

you'll get credits for the class, but not a grade.

That's what I figured, but I just wanted to make sure.

is it a bad idea to sign up for your classes (ie at orientation) before you get your ap grades back?

I'm pretty sure you can change them after orientation.

i'm not going to register for history or science for the first semester because i won't have my IB scores until july. if i don't get the score i want then i guess i'll start taking them in second semester.

Do you still have to take a placement test if you got a 5 on the AP test? I got a 5 on the Spanish test, so do I still take the foreign language placement test?

Only if you want to keep taking Spanish. Since you got a 5, you're done with foreign language at BU if you want to be. But if you're trying to continue with the language, you'll need to do the placement.

Anyone know what the foreign language placement tests are like? For a native speaker I mean.

Its pretty easy. Some questions about vocab, quite a few on grammar. If you are a native speaker, it will be easy. I'm not sure how they run it now, but I remember being able to take the test online anytime. Just in case you don't know how it works, a CAS student must take level 4 of a language. If you place into level 4, you only need to take that one class to fulfill the requirement. The test doesn't exempt you from all language classes, but it can exempt you from levels 1 2 and 3.

If you're a native speaker and don't want to keep taking classes in your language, you can take a bilingual exam in CAS 105.

Bilingual exam? How's that different from the regular exam?

They give you a newspaper article and you have to read it and translate it. The other exam is like any other multiple choice exam.

Okay, thanks. Should we take these placement tests before or during orientation?

If you're CAS, take them online before orientation. If you're COM or SAR (I think), take them at orientation. Just check: go to the "Checklist for New Undergrads" on the Student Link, and click on the one that mentions diagnostic exams.

I don't see the checklist.
