I've been hearing some people say that AP/IB scores are only necessary at Yale if one wants to achieve Advanced Standing. Advanced classes (relative to freshmen) don't require AP/IB scores as prerequisites; if you can convince the professors that you can handle their courses, then you can enroll.

Can any current Yalies confirm this (especially for science/math classes)?

If you want to do advanced standing with acceleration credits then you must have the AP tests to back it up.

If you don't have AP's, you're not shun out of any class - you're right, you can get into pretty much any class if you can convince the professor - AP's tend to help, but are not necessary.

I enrolled in intermediate econ courses before sending my AP report to Yale.

For math, there's plenty of kids whose entry level is several semesters higher than what AP tests.
