Question regarding AP scores for Oxbridge admissions and the new AP Physics 1 and 2

Preface: This is for a friend of mine.

He wants to study physics at Oxbridge and knows that in order to have a decent shot you need all 5's on 5 APs. But since the College Board is doing away with AP Physics B and replacing it with AP Physics 1 and 2, would the adcom care if his APs are AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Calculus BC? Or would they prefer other AP scores from related subjects, i.e., AP Computer Science or AP Chemistry, for example.

Thanks a lot you guys!

LOL you don’t get to count each of those as full APs. 1 and 2 are explicitly designed to be equal to 1 semester college courses, so together they add up to 1 course. Ditto the 2 Physics C courses. So, the most you would get is 2 Physics + Calc = 3. That would be enough for Oxford, but not for Cambridge, which requires 5. Comp Sci and Chem would both be good additions. Tell your friend that for Oxford the Physics Aptitude Test is essential: he can find practice tests online. Also, tell him to look closely at the Physics courses at both unis - you can only apply to one or the other, and they are pretty different in some ways.
