question regarding class prerequisites (Econ101)

Under econ101a, it says Math53 is a prerequisite to taking the course. I was wondering if this was a "for your own good" prereq or some kind of official required course before taking the class. Will they kick you out of class because you don't have math53? As far as I know, math53 is a prereq only for some econ courses, but not a requirement of the major.

Im asking because I'd like to take the class but have not yet taken math53. I plan on taking math53 this summer at a community college and then returning in the fall to take econ101a. If it was simply a matter of knowing math53 material, this would suffice. What I am concerned about is that they will run some kind of check on me to see if I have taken the required courses at UC Berkeley-- and then kick me out of the class!

No, they don't officially check if you've taken Math53 or not, so they won't kick you out. In fact, I know quite a few people in the class now who haven't taken 53. It's up to you to know if you can handle the math they give you in the class. Granted, you won't need to know all of Math53 or any other multivariable calc equivalent for the class. You could probably self study the math material yourself beforehand.
