question regarding courses

<p>hey folks, </p>

<p>i was wondering how necessary it is to take 5 "major" or "solid" courses every term to be in the running for elite colleges. What if I took 4 solid courses (as well as an elective), for just one term (during Jr year), even though they are all AP's. Would that kill my chances at going to a selective college?</p>

<p>I guess what i'm also getting at is would colleges rather see you take only a few harder courses or a lot of regular level courses. ( yeah, i'm sure they'd rather see a lot of hard courses)</p>
