Question Regarding Credit to SMC/UCB

I'm a second semester freshman at a Michigan 4-year university and I plan on moving to California over the summer. I will attend Santa Monica College for one year to gain California residency and then I want to transfer to UC Berkeley. I know that one can only guess and hope on fulfilling pre-req and breadth requirements because there isn't an exact list of classes that transfer for those requirements. Question: Should I even bother to try to transfer my credits from my current instituion to SMC, or can I just send my (30-credit) SMC and my current (30-credit) institution's transcripts when I apply to UCB?

Thanks!

I would just send both transcripts. I’m sure you can figure out what classes from your school in Michigan transfer to SMC. Check out [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) if you haven’t already and look at the requirements for your major and what classes SMC offers. You still have a year to fulfill whatever requirements you need to transfer to Berkeley so you should be alright. Hope this helps and good luck!

^^^ That’s my question lol. I want to know if I should even bother to transfer my current credits to SMC.

I would definitely try, so that the SMC counselors can see if courses you took at the Michigan school can be used to fulfill IGETC; otherwise you’re at the mercy of UCB to determine if the courses qualify for their GE req’s
