I recently received an e-mail from Brown where the opening line was “Congratulations again on your selection to the QuestBridge Program.” From there, the e-mail then went on to invite me to apply to Brown Regular Decision.

As far as I know, I have no affiliation with the QuestBridge Program at all. I’m confused as to what the congratulations are for. At the bottom of the e-mail, it says that my e-mail was received from the Brown Office of College Admission, not the QuestBridge Program.

Am I just reading too much into things? Was this merely intended to be a generic e-mail sent out to numerous students who have expressed some level of interest in Brown? Did anyone else receive a similar e-mail?

I doubt it since I didn’t do too well on those subject tests.
Is there more to the QuestBridge Program than the College Match program they have? That’s really all I know about it.

Should I go ahead and also ask this question in the QuestBridge forum?

Frankly I think you got the wrong marketing email from Brown. If you’ve not been part of the QB program, then you have no reason to contact QB (the deadline was Nov 1 anyway) and you are no longer eligible. Your contact info was simply on the wrong marketing list. Apply to Brown if you’re a realistic candidate and can envision yourself there.

Otherwise, ignore it like the other 100s of “invitations” you’re constantly getting from colleges.

I agree it sounds like a mistake. QB isn’t based on scores and you wouldn’t get this sort of email from taking any tests. QB does have more avenues than college match, you can be a finalist and not match, then you can just put QB Finalist as an honor. I think there are options for those who aren’t finalists too, and there is a junior year scholarship program.

But as T26E4 points out, QB is closed for the year and it just looks like an error with regard to that program. They did get your email addy from somewhere, though.

Thanks for the input @T26E4 and @BrownParent.
I went to speak to my counselor today and she said that she’ll take a look at the e-mail and possibly look into it a little more on my behalf.

Normally, I would just ignore the e-mail but this isn’t the first time something strange like this as happened. A month or two ago, I was e-mailed by a college confirming the details of an on-campus interview I had scheduled for the next day. The only problem was that I had never scheduled an interview and that the college was across the country. I was able to call the school to clear things up since I didn’t want my no-show at the interview I had supposedly scheduled to impact my application should I choose to apply there. What my family and I think is that there’s someone else applying to similar schools as me sharing my (somewhat generic) name. If that’s the case, I would prefer contacting Brown just to sort things out and make sure there isn’t any more confusion in the future.

@BrownParent, I think I have been contacted by Brown before so I’m assuming they just had my e-mail in the system due to my SAT/ACT scores.
