Question regarding Eckardt Scholars Program and Engineering

Hello everyone I was accepted into Lehigh and asked to join the Eckardt Scholars program which is wonderful except for the fact that the people invited to join the program are members of the college of arts and sciences. I picked chemistry as my major when I applied but I am having some second thoughts and looking more into engineering. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not switching my major will get me kicked out of the program because it seems like an amazing opportunity I don't want to pass up, but also engineering is looking more and more interesting to me as a major and career option.

I recommend that you email Heather Johnson, the program director and pose the question to her. I do not think that changing your major would affect your being in the program as it encompasses all majors. My son is in engineering and is in the program and there are several other engineering students in the program as well. You could probably also post the question on the Eckardt facebook group.

Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it

If Heather has not already talked to you I can answer it - The Eckardt program allowed Engineers for one (or two maybe) years, but they do not anymore. The program doesn’t really benefit engineers really, which is why they stopped allowing them. As an engineer, you can’t get out of your distribution requirements and the senior project thing might be too time consuming with the course work. I’m 99% sure you couldn’t be in the program as an engineer, but it’s not a real loss since it wouldn’t help you much anyway.
