Question Regarding GPA When Transferring Schools

As I understand it, my GPA will reset when I transfer schools. I am currently attending school at a CC with an average GPA. I know that my GPA will not be good enough to get into UF. However, if I transfer to USF, get a 4.0 in the classes I take there, will my GPA reflect only the courses taken at USF or will my GPA from my CC be factored in?

It depends on their policy. I only really know about some schools in California. For instance, your GPA does reset when you transfer to a UC school. Meaning, your previous grades won’t be factored in. For a private school USC (which I’m attending), they average your CC GPA with your USC GPA and that’s your final GPA. However, for Latin Honors, USC looks at the whatever GPA is lower (your CC or your USC GPA), so that sorta sucks :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not sure how USF works, but it’s worth doing a little research because it can really vary by school.

If you apply to UF, you will need to send official copies of your transcripts from your CC and from USF. UF will still be able to see your not-so-hot CC grades as well as whatever your grades are at USF.

But truly, if you haven’t pulled a 4.0 at your CC, why do you think you will suddenly be able to do that at USF?

You’ll end up with a CC GPA and an USF GPA, but UF will consider your classes at both schools (and once you get started at UF, you’ll have an UF GPA that only includes classes taken at UF).

The GPA requirement to be competitive as a transfer student, varies by major. Some majors may require no higher than a 3.0 GPA, while others are almost impossible to get into as a transfer student.

Here is a link to UF’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) majors, it list the “competitive GPA” requirements for most majors taken within the college.
