Question Regarding Pre-Application Data Sheet

I had a question about item 7, the Academic Interest Info section. Does it require you to fill in a rank for every school, even if you're not interested in applying? For example, the only two schools in which I have any interest are the A&S and Engineering schools, so do I need to fill in ranks 3-5 in the other three schools and choose academic interests in each, or can I just leave them blank?

Thanks!

Pretty sure you have to fill them in…either way, it’s not going to make a HUGE difference in your app.

At least, I would hope not…

Good luck!

I have a question also:

the WUSTL pathway shows all the materials they have and haven’t received. But after we submit the preapplication there isn’t anything for us to do is there? We have to wait until the regular deadline to submit stuff like essays, grades, etc, right?

Well, the best thing you can do is turn in the $55 application fee. Once that’s turned in, you can receive alumni interviews off-campus, which will just add to your portfolio.

Otherwise, start working on your essays, have your recommendations lined up…basically, prepwork. The Common App becomes available tomorrow, so that should keep you busy for a while, but I believe that you CAN turn things in whenever you’re done with them. The folks at the admissions office will just add whatever they get to your portfolio there, and it will be checked off on the WUSTL Pathway.

At least, that’s my understanding. Other people can chime in if they want.

bump, as I have the same question as the OP

I’m pretty sure you only need to rank the schools that are relevant to you.

I applied years and years ago so I personally don’t remember.

If the form lets you only fill out 1 or 2 schools without giving you an error, that’s fine. They know someone not interested in art or architecture won’t want to go to Sam Fox.
If it gives you errors and makes you rank them, just rank them however. It’s so easy to switch schools before you start that it doesn’t even matter. And I’ve never heard of someone being admitted to the school they weren’t primarily interested in.
