Question Regarding Room Type at Third North

I was thrilled to find out that I am living in Third North this coming academic year! As a transfer, it was the absolute best option out of the the five I got when I applied for housing.

However, I do have one question regarding the room type. I am assigned to a double room in a three-person, two-bedroom apartment(one double, one single), and I learnt from the housing website that the only combination of one double and one single at Third North is "two bedroom apartments with 1 low cost double room and 1 regular rate single". But I never applied for low-cost, so I am wondering if it's just false info on the website, or am I actually getting a low-cost room? Is there any kind of indication on home.nyu.edu if someone gets a low-cost room?

Some people told me that only the triple rooms there are low cost. But apparently that's not what the housing website says. Anyone knows anything about the low cost suites at Third North?

Thanks!

Hi, Grace…,

I do not see a low cost double option in 3rd North. Only a LCT in the official NYU Housing Fees Schedule. So I think you are safe in that the double is a regular double. Take a look - the only lower cost room at $11370 is a TRIPLE.

(By the way, the housing fees is from this link:

http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/resLifeHousServ/documents/2011-2012UGrates.pdf</a> )

THIRD AVE.
NORTH
Traditional/FYRE Single Bdrm; Shared Suite Y Y Y Y Y 75 FLEX $8,058.00 $16,116.00 N
2-3 Room Suites; 4-6 Students $6,921.00 $13,842.00 N
Loft - 5-7 Rooms; 9-13 Students $6,921.00 $13,842.00 N
Triple 1 Room; 3 Students $5,685.00 $11,370.00 Y

Though I have to say what is puzzling is that there is no 3 person, 2 Bedroom combination listed under 3rd North. Do you show an amount for the housing charge? Maybe you can go into your bursar’s account and see if they have listed the cost for housing to determine if you got a low cost double (which is confusing since that option is not listed under fees).

As I recall, one poster noted in this forum he/she was assigned a Low Cost room without requesting it at all.

There hasn’t been any info in my Bursar’s account yet.
This is really puzzling. For those who got low-cost, is there any kind of indication in the application status?

The only description here that fits my room is “two bedroom apartments with 1 low cost double room and 1 regular rate single”. ([Third Avenue North](http://www.nyu.edu/life/living-at-nyu/on-campus-living/explore-the-residencehalls/Third-Avenue-North.html))

Weird.

grace… Bad news. Checked w S who has seen rooms in 3 N. He
tells me there are LC doubles in 3 N. Very small room. :(

I emailed the housing officer and this is what they wrote me.

“Thank you for contacting our office. You are in a double bedroom,
two-bedroom suite. There is one bath to share between all four residents.”

There are clearly three person on my status, maybe it’s just a double room with single occupancy at the moment? I specifically asked if it’s low cost, but they didn’t say anything about that. Anyways, I have a better feeling now after receiving this.

Well, that sounds good, if they mean you are actually in a TWO DOUBLE Suite. That would mean a regular double for your assignment, instead of the low cost double. Wow, I cannot believe the poor communications from NYU. Why would they tell you the following in your assignment:

“I am assigned to a double room in a three-person, two-bedroom apartment(one double, one single),…” (Post #1),

then,

“You are in a double bedroom,
two-bedroom suite. There is one bath to share between all four residents.” (Post #6)

This makes for unnecessary confusion and worry on the part of students.

Did it say you were in a double with a 3rd suite mate in a single? or did you just assume that because there were only 3 names listed on your Albert account? I thought I was in a similar situation because they don’t show you the names of the people in your suite who didn’t fill out the housing survey–you need to click the profile thing.

Oh wow. All my info just got changed. I am now in a different room with 3 completely different roommates!!!

@jjohn42
yea, i assumed because there were only 3 names listed.
