Question regarding SAT process

On the collegeboard website, there is something saying where you want to send your scores, with the first 4 being included for free. I'm just confused about this.

Does this mean I have applied for this school when I do this, or does it mean they have my scores when I do fill out a separate application to those schools? How do I notify that school that I sent them my SAT scores? Is there a sport for that on the application?

Could someone just tell me about this stage, thanks.

No, it does not mean you're applying to those schools. It means you're sending your scores to them. The schools will open a file for you with that info, and if you then apply to the school, they'll have your scores and can match up your records. You don't have to tell the school you've already sent the scores. They'll send you an acknowledgement when they receive your app and tell you if it's complete or if anything's missing.
