Question Regarding SAT Subject Tests for Admission

Are they needed for all applicants? I'm an ACT person who hasn't taken the SAT but I keep finding on college websites, "SAT or ACT, and two SAT II subject tests..." Does this mean that every applicant to Harvard (just example) will need subject test scores when applying?

Yes. You want to appeal to them as competitive so study and do really well on those sat II’s.

If you want to be considered as a serious applicant, then yes, do take subject tests. The subject tests aren’t really comparable to the reasoning test, so you shouldn’t be afraid to take them since you claim to be an ACT person. Try to take at least two tests in different subject areas, like U.S. History and Biology, for example.

Go here for a list of colleges that require, recommend or consider SAT IIs: [Compass: Admissions Requirements](<a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group)

In the required column, you will see for some of them an * next to the number. That means the college accepts the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs and contrary to what is suggested above you don’t need to send SAT IIs to be considered a serious candidate at those colleges if you send ACT. In fact, those colleges usually won’t even consider IIs unless you also send SAT. If there is no * you must submit SAT IIs to the college even if you submit ACT.
