Hey, first time poster here. I know this might be a stupid question, but how do colleges count the scores of the SATs? I heard from my friends that some schools take the highest score achieved of each section and considers them. Is that true for a lot of schools? Or do most schools look at the highest total score gotten in one session? Thanks in advance, and btw, this site is incredibly helpful.

The majority of private colleges take the highest score from each section on any given test date and count that score. That is, let's say you got 700 CR, 800 Math, and 690 Writing on the May SAT but got 800 CR, 780 Math, and 800 Writing on the June SAT. You would end up with a 2400 instead of a 2190.

UCs (University of California), however, take the highest SAT score per sitting. As in, they take your best SAT score that you took per day. one day total. So they would consider between a 2190 and a 2380, and obviously would take the 2380.

Hope that makes sense.
