Question Regarding Transfers

My questions:

How do transfers work? Can you transfer after your freshmen year at a university/com. college, or do you have to wait till your second year?

More specifically, how do ivy league schools do transfers?

Say I get a 3.8 GPA in my local university (UNLV) during my freshmen or sophomore years. What would be my chances of getting into an ivy league school such as yale?

What about a 4.0 GPA at a community college?

I am currently a high school student. I would like to get into an ivy league school, but my current academic achievements are not that…impressive. I would never get accepted, because I highly slacked off my freshmen year and never really cared how it would affect me come college applications time. I may attend either the University of Nevada Las Vegas or community college, depending on which school would be more attractive in a transference application, but I really don’t know much about transfers.

Thank you to anyone who responds to this :)

In general, you can transfer after either freshman or sophomore year, but there are exceptions, so you need to check the specifics for each school.

Colleges in the Ivy league accept students transferring after either fr or sop year. However, Princeton does NOT accept any transfers and Harvard is not accepting any next year, after that you have to check their website.

3/4. Chances are never good at transferring to highly selective colleges as admission rates for transfers are very low. For instance, last year, Yale’s was about 4%, about half that of freshman admissions. You need excellent grades and more. Read the sticky thread at the top of this page: Transfer Admissions 101 to see how transfer admissions works.

Please remember that the Ivy league is an athletic conference, there are many excellent colleges in the US.
