question regarding...withdrawal

I'm euro..20..and a freshman at one of the college's here in the midwest...and I'm thinking about withdrawing..mainly due to the ridiculous out-of-state tuition fees...I'd be in debt of 8200(not including room/board) if i complete out the semester here, whereas if i quit now i'd owe them somewhere around 1200...If I decide to take this route... I'd move to cali and labor for a year before becoming a resident, then enroll at a CC...either way i'm thinking about finishing off at one of the UC's. If I complete the semester here, the best i'd finish off with is a 3.6 in 4 acad. courses. It's really hard to make this decision...also would I be considered too old to start off fresh at 21?

One is never too old to start college. However, what concerns me about your post is that apparently you dove into your current situation without thinking about the implications of carrying so much debt. That makes me wonder about the thoughtfulness of your idea of dropping out and moving to a new state. I think that what you're planning to do is harder than you're anticipating.

It's hard moving to a new state, finding a job, getting comfortable in the new culture, etc. You'll probably also go into the debt to do this.

In addition, you'll lose some $ by dropping out now. Meanwhile, you won't have any grades to show for your experience. If you drop out, I'd suggest doing it after this semester. And there's nothing wrong with a 3.6. That's a great gpa.

My advice is to go to your campus counseling center, and use their services to figure out your best options. Their job is to help you, not keep students at the university.
