I asked this question before but I never got a full response to the question. When I finished 8th grade (I am going to 9th grade this year) I had a REALLY BAD day the day I had to take my mathematics regents A exam. I couldn't concentrate and passed with a 78% and I am an A student in math. Myy dream college is to go to M.I.T and I was wondering if I did really well in the mathematics B regents I take in 9th grade will they still look down upon the 78% since I know they will see it because it comes with my high school transcript. Also I know M.I.T likes to see students who take the most rigourous courseload, I was also wondering since I am not taking french honors in 9th grade but if I happen to be accepted in 10th I will have a chance of being admitted. Also my school automatically enrolls us in Earth Science in 9th grade which is the honors course in 8th grade in our middle school so I am going to be 1 year behind all the honors students if I get into honors in 10th grade which will DEFINETLY happen. Earth Science -> Biology Honors -> Honors Chem -> then I can take 2 science courses in 12th grade to catch up. Thanks in advance.

When MIT and similar ask for a rigorous courseload, it doesn't mean you must take the very hardest class at every single stage in every single subject. They want to see that you have interests and are willing to test yourself, that's all.

I don't think they will care at all about some test you took in 8th grade. It may seem like a big deal to you now because you haven't done anything else, but by the time you come to apply, it will be one tiny, insignificant detail amongst many other much more important things on your application.

Seriously, you are just starting 9th grade. Come back in a couple of years time, and I'm sure people here will tell you what the real problems with your application are, and I can tell you now, they won't be your Regents A score from the 8th grade.

Your right, I really shouldn't be worrying about it now. Thanks for the reply.

i agree with vladavir, especially because many colleges discount anythign that took place before the beginning of 10th grade anyways. Academically i mean....

save the stress

You are in 8th grade. Chill out. You did a 78? so what? it's just a test, you havent even been to HS. You won't find out if you are really smart or not until 10th grade when competition heats up. Sure you might have been intelligent at whatever elementary school you went to, but HS is a big awakening, just as college is to top HSers. Maybe you are smart, work hard and we'll see. PS get off this site. It's useful for 11-college. 9th graders don't have business worrying about college. Worry about grades and ECs.
