Question to current Work-Study aid receivers...

Hey guys, I've been wondering.. Is it hard to balance among work, study, class, and social life?

It just seems so impossible to me.. Should I drop a class in order to find time? I have 5 classes and most of them have lab/discussion classes.

Wish we knew too-
My son will be doing work study with 5 classes as well. Supposedly they work with you to find something manageable. I hope so!

I did it in my freshman yr and more than 4 classes plus work is too overwhelming during the 1st semester.

I took 5 classes, worked 15 hours a week, and also worked in admissions my first semester, plus joined a fraternity, and had a social life all my first semester, and it was manageable to me, I dont see how 5 classes and a job would be too much

To OP - My “S” is an incoming freshman with 17Cr’s. He’s planning on FWS about 10-12hrs/week. He’s not doing sports or Greek Life. As parents, we think he can “handle it” and will add some structure. A recent article on USNews WR said that students with some amount of FWS have better grades.

We have an “agreement” that if he truly feels he cannot do FWS due to time constraints, course load/difficulty, he can quit. After all - it’s his spending money which will be impacted.

This needs to be an individual decision - based on course load/difficulty, student’s organization skills, need for “cash”, invovlement in sports/Greek Life, etc.
