Question to Parents & Cadets

Good morning,
My D recently accepted her appointment to the CGA for class of 2012.

A few questions to current cadets or parents:
1) Car Insurance. Do you continue to keep your cadet on your auto insurance policy? I've read on some older strings that because cadets are 'in the military' they don't have to maintain auto insurance (or its at a greatly discounted rate because the cadets rarely have opportunity to drive). My insurance agent (Allstate) was not familiar with this. Any information is appreciated.

2) Watch. Any recommendations for good watch for cadets to bring to R Day?

thank you!

my parents have State Farm so im not sure how Allstate would work. i thinked they worked something out so they dont pay for me to be on the policy, but i am covered for the few days a year that im home.

one without a velcro band. you shower often and after a couple of weeks the velcro gets ruined and the watch wont stay on. also i dont know if i was just unlucky, but my waterproof timex that i reported with got water in it and broke so maybe avoid getting one of those.

good luck to your daughter!

I have a cadet son and our insurance company was very happy to cover him at no charge for the brief times he is home and using our vehicles. You might want to let them know that even in the summer, unlike a typical college student, your daughter will only be home a maximum of three weeks. Once she has made friendships at the academy, she may do something other than going home for the short breaks (depending on where you live) and so their time driving at home is rather minimal. Our insurance agent is patriotic so that might help, but from what I have heard, most insurance agencies will grant you the same benefit that ours and the other poster spoke of. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask and a big congratulations to your daughter :-)
