Just curious about how boarding school works. Can you take part in off campus competitions? (just curious). Can you really go anywhere in a boarding school? And when I mean off campus competitions I mean competitions that you go to yourself and is not sponsored by a club or whatnot.

Yes. My son, who attends a NE prep school, played fall baseball while in the 11th grade with a top flight travel team located about 40 miles away from his campus. In order to play with that travel team, he had to obtain the consent of the school’s athletic director, his class dean and his school advisor. He also had to check in and out with the dean for the day every time he left campus to play baseball, which was about 7 or 8 weekends. He and I had to arrange his travel to and from games with a private taxi service and make motel room accommodations for various overnight stays, while keeping the school fully advised of his schedule.

So, some schools do permit some students to participate in off-campus competition with teams and in events not affiliated with those schools, provide you comply with numerous rules and regs.

Good luck.
