If I apply to N.D. with a major that would be in the College of Arts and Letters and I get accepted, can I later switch to a major in the College of Engineering before I enter the freshman class?

Also, how much does your choice of major affect your chances of admission? Is it better to apply to one of the larger schools at N.D.?

Thanks in advance

At ND, you don't apply to a specific school. In fact, you don't even choose a major until after your first year. They have a First Year of Studies Program for every freshman. I believe the only major in the university which differs from this is architecture.

you are in the First Year of Studies until the end of your Freshman year, in fact you don't have to declare a major to spring of your sophomore year. Does it help if you know what you want to do major wise? yes because you can start major required classes earlier, but it's not required. It is fairly easy to move from one college to another, doesn't take that much work. As a fresman you'll be assigned an advisor in the FYS...some are really good, some good, some have no clue. So that's kind of a crap shoot. Once you choose a major, you're assigned an advisor in that dept to whom you can direct questions, and they are normally really good.
