I am doing the SAT in january, and i have a query...

Do the markers actually check that the data is valid. Sometimes, i forget the details of an evidence, and im afraid that it may be slightly erroneous. Would they penalise me if i write it, and its wrong, or should i just trash that evidence.

I believe you are talking about the essay. If you are then don't get tensed as they will not penalise you for anything you write unless its off-topic.

Would they penalize if you dont specify a particular source? Like what if you just said "There was a book that I once read...., etc." and it relates to the topic, what happens then?

No,and they don't care if you make up "facts" that are not true. They want an on-topic introduction, development with specific examples and a conclusion. Also, correct grammar and spelling and a varied, appropriate vocabulary.

pleasedontspam... i hav the Kaplan lesson books and i wanna quote from the book's writing prep section:"Nobody's really cares if ur Aunt Susan did win teh noble prize or not, all they care about is if u can make it sound good".
so ya u can BS ur way 2 glory..
