I am not into the drinking and partying scene at all. That said, this doesn't mean I only want to hang out with a group of people who are just completely into school work and nothing else. I do want to have a good time, but I don't really feel like I need to involve alcohol and other stuff to do so. Is this going to a problem at Syracuse? I've heard from friends who are current students that this really dominates social life there.

well i'm a freshman @ syracuse right now, and i wasnt into the partying scene in high school either. since then, i have gone out occasionally, once a week at most to get the full college experience, but a lot of the time, my friends and i hang out and watch movies, etc. my friends are pretty focused on their schoolwork but are by no means consumed by it. i'm sure you'll find friends with similar interests as you at college.

good luck :-)

I chose the 'party your ass off every weekend' route, so my opinion is not as well-informed as it could be, but this is my observation:

Most students party - maybe not every weekend, but they certainly do. So expect alcohol to make a presence [with evidence being left all through the bathrooms, hallways, lounges and sidewalks]. However, it is a large university, and you can generally find people who share your interests and beliefs. Many people will not go to parties, but will just chill in their rooms and drink there. Others (though I know of relatively few), will do just what you described. I honestly wish my friends would do more of that, because tbh, the whole party scene is overrated and quickly gets boring. Most syracuse kids are apathetic and stupid, so expect little intelligent conversation, inside or outside of the classroom. I live on the Mount, and most of my floormates hang out in the lounge since its too much effort to go anywhere at night - being a public space, they never (well, usually never) drink there.

You CAN find the circumstances youre looking for, but finding FRIENDS that do likewise may take a bit longer.

yeah, i live on the mount too, and i've seen a lot of drinking/hanging out in the dorms recently only cuz of the freezing weather. i generally havent met that many apathetic/stupid kids at all, however...i guess maybe its just by chance? lucky me!

you can probably expect that from alot of big schools. my sister goes to temple u in philly and well...thats basically all they know how to do there in philly. but temple also isn't that hard to get into so there are some people there that lack some sense..i hope syracuse isn't like that..how were your guys stats. and what are your majors.. is it hard to get into their business school
