U Penn's website doesn't mention ED and EA, just that you can't ED to two schools. MIT allows you to EA to as many schools as long as the other schools are okay with it. But why would you want to give up a chance at MIT?!?! :)

MIT is generally more selective than UPenn, especially in the early round. I doubt you'd get into MIT EA but not UPenn ED, which would be the only situation in which applying to both would benefit you.

Well last year my friend did EA at two places IIRC (NYU and GW) and he got denied at one even with STELLAR scores gpa and extracurricular activities. I think its because he did 2 EA. I am wondering if the same is with EA and ED.

Lets try not to let coincidence masquerade as fact. In the EA, and I assume ED, process the schools have no idea what other schools you have applied to unless you specifically tell them. Applying to more than one school will have no effect on your chances. Top students are rejected all the time from top universities. Don't read anything into this that is not there.

It is, however, important to learn whether Penn would rescind an ED admission if they learned of an EA application elsewhere. My reading of their published information is not clear; I would suggest the best thing to do would be to call Penn Admissions and ask, anonymously if you like, whether their ED policy precludes you from submitting a non-binding EA application elsewhere, given that you would of course retract it should you be granted ED admission at Penn.

Alright mootmom that sounds like a stellar plan :D.
