Question

Is it better to have a teacher write a recommendation for you whom you know will say only good things about you but may write just one or two sentences than to ask a teacher who you know will write a lot, most of it very positive, but may say something bad about you (i.e. I don't think he challenged himself by taking my course). Also, I did equally well in both classes; the teacher first mentioned taught an honors course while the second taught a regular one.

Why would the first teacher only write one or two sentences?

You could help encourage that teacher to write more by giving him/her a list of questions you'd like him/her to address while writing the recommendation. If this recommendation would be positive, I encourage you to try.

Thanks for the idea. I think I'll try that. Also, I don't know for certain that this teacher would only write 1-2 sentences but I have heard from others that he does, and his student evaluation of me that all teachers complete twice over the course of the school year was very brief.
