Question

I applied EA and was disappointed to see that I was deferred. They want my first semester grades because they said so many people with my academic performance had applied there. I thought I was well above average on both SATs and GPA so I was just curious to those who got in what yours were if you do not mind sharing?

3.9w Gpa, 2050 Sat

I hope you don't mind, but I checked your stats that you posted in other threads. I'm a little surprised, as I know you are. Posting my son's stats won't really be helpful because he was ED and not EA, but your stats looked good. Your GPA, once you use the "Elon Weighting" method, would be above average, I assume. And the SAT subscores are at or above the 75th percentile for CR and Math. While I wouldn't consider Elon a safety for you, I would call it a solid match.

BUT, I do recall what an Elon admissions officer told our group when we visited -- a question was asked about whether applying EA provided a "bump" and he basically said that the difference in acceptance rates between EA and RD was misleading. While it's true that EA has a higher acceptance rate than RD, the applicant pool for EA is a good bit stronger. So maybe, in the context of EA, Elon wasn't quite as much of a strong target. And maybe their applicant pool has gotten stronger yet again this year -- it has been doing so for several years now, as Elon gets more press and moves up in the rankings.

Having said all that, I STILL THINK THAT YOU ARE A VERY COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE FOR RD, PARTICULARLY IF YOUR MID-TERM GRADES ARE STRONG.

Good luck!

thank you so much. You made me feel better about myself, I was hoping that it was harder to get in EA and that I still had a shot during RD as my semester grades this time are higher than ever before and I am taking the most APs I have ever taken as well. I am also getting a teacher rec to try to help me stand out.

I was accepted with a 3.6w gpa and a 1300/1600 or 2100/2400.

I also got deferred Early Action. The school is kind of a stretch for me (3.0 GPA 28 ACT) but my 1st semester grades are up... should be interesting to see if I get in.

Good Luck!

My D was accepted EA with a 3.91 wtd gpa (it equated to a 3.5 on Elon's wtd gpa scale) and a 32 on her ACT.
