Question?

So I know we can use 2 AP's for CREDIT (say Calc 1 and Calc 2), and we walk in and take Math 103. Do we still have to take 2 QC classes, or are we done with that requirement since we got credit for Calc 1 and 2 through AP's?

Also, how easy are intro classes (intro Bio, intro Chem) to get A's if we took the AP's and decide to retake the classes?

Thanks for the help.

You still need 2 QC classes. Not really sure about the intro question, but it will definitely help.

Skip Math 31/Math 32!!! Go straight to Math 103 if you can

^ I agree. Like I said before on this board, from personal experience doing well in Calc BC does not mean you'll get an easy A in Math 32.

I definitely agree, unless you love the idea of math labs don't do Math 31/32.

For biology, take Bio 26 rather than the intro Bio 25.

For chemistry, take Chem 23 if you want a good one semester review of chemistry. The only problem is this puts you a semester behind for orgo. You could also jump straight into Chem 151, which gives you the option of dropping down to a lower level if you don't do well on your first exam.

The chem department now offers both first semester orgo and second semester orgo in both the fall and spring. So I guess you could go from Chem 23 in the fall to first semester orgo in the spring (Chem 151). And, like warblers said, if you do take Chem 151 as a freshman first semester, you can jump down after your first test (my year I'd say about a dozen students did that in a class of 60-70).

Well what would be a good first semester schedule for a premed major? I'm thinking about the transition, so what are some easy courses to take while we get started in college?

bump .

You could try the Global Health FOCUS (if they still have it). I'd say take a good look at the pre-med requirements and try to get a few intro classes out of the way.

Chem 23 is a tough course. half kids get As and Bs and half get C/D.

Personally, I would take orgo and skip the intro classes. Every science/math class can hurt your GPA, so you might as well skip them if you can.

See, I actually found 25 to be very easy and consistently hear horror stories about 26. So a little more asking around might be worthwhile.

Premeds can't "skip" science classes, although they can replace them with more advanced ones. In this case, his options are: (21, 22, 151, 152), (23, 151, 152, 227), or (151, 152, 227, 228). If you can get out of the first option, by all means do so. But I don't think there's necessarily a clear choice between the remaining two.

Be careful with skipping intro classes. For example:

Premed requires 1 full year (2 semesters) of general (inorganic) chemistry with lab. If you have AP Chem credit, that only counts for a 1 semester course (Chem 19 I think) on the transcript. Therefore, if you decide to skip Chem 21/22 and Chem 23, you might need to take a harder/higher level chemistry after organic such as physical chemistry or something.

Bottom line is, read those requirements over carefully and plan out a general sequence of courses you want to take.
