Question

hey, I've pretty much had my heart set on going to sdsu. I just have to know what are my chances. I messed around a lot my freshmen and sophmore year. I didn't really take school seriously until my junior year. I'm making up 2 math classes that i got D+'s in and will be replaced with A's. My Jr. yr gpa is 3.4 sophmore year is 3.0, I'm taking the ACT tomorrow, what do you think I'd need to score in order to get accepted?

oh and what back up cal state schools should i apply to, if i wanted to go to another school similar to sdsu "party school"

what are your stats first. i know cal poly is a good party school but it's harder to get into than sdsu. i think chico state might be an option.

this is really stupid but what do you mean by stats, I'm really new to all this

what is your gpa overall? weighted and unweighted?
any honors or ap courses taken?
what did you get on the sat's?
are you a first generation college student or from low income?

My overall gpa is a 2.9, I haven't taken any honors or aps. I just took the ACT yesterday so I'll get the results in 2 weeks or so and I neither: first generation college student or low income

your gpa is really low, unless you can bring it up too 3.2 at least sdsu will be a reach.

try applying to chico state or long beach.

yah you have a very low shot of getting into SDSU even with a 3.3. Chico state might be the best option for you if you want a party school atmosphere.

avg gpa in '03 for freshmen was 3.53, it had to have gone up atleast .10 to now.

DO you think that they even look at improvement? I mean I know its incredibily low, last year I got a lousy 2.6 but this year I'll either be getting a 3.71 or 3.57, thats a huge change, so would they take that into consideration?

they won't really look at that, due to how many apps they get per year. just go to a jc for 2 years then go to sdsu if you really want to go

I was thinking of that, but then I heard that i could go to another college and then transfer after one year?

if you go to another csu, it will be harder to transfer to another csu. best route is to go to a jc. you can transfer in one year as a lower division unless you can complete 60 units in a year but its nearly impossible. your best bet is to transfer after two years as a upper division.

caliguy has it right. Nothing wrong going to a jc for 2 years then going to sdsu. I have had a lot of friends take this route and it turned out so well for them. They learned a lot at jc and it is super cheap. You will just need a 3.1 from a jc to transfer to sdsu.

Also if you do go to another 4 year, just graduate at that school. It is a hassle transferring to a 4 year from a 4 year. It is also very hard due to they look at these transfer students as the last resort.

hope this helps.

friend of mine was actually exactly in your shoes, messed up some years in highschool. went to a local jc got his bad year out of the way and transfered to sdsu and is having a great time, taking honors, and on a good route to be very successful.

thanks for the advice, I just am afraid going to a jc would hurt my college experience but I really want to go to sdsu. I'm sure you remember how badly you just wanted to escape and start a new life, and I wonder if it's hard for transfer students to adjust since everyone has been there for 2 years already and made close friends. But I'd be willing to go to a jc for two years.

you won't have a problem at all meeting people as a transfer student. You will have a great experience there either as a 4 year or transfer student.

my friend was a transfer and it is not hard making new friends once your there. but it is true that you will miss out on the fun your first two years.

most jcs are not as socially strong as universities.
