Is it really rare for Caltech to admit two or more students from the same high school (decent public high school, this yr. around 15-18 semi-merits)?

I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess I'd say it's pretty rare for most schools. Caltech doesn't strike me as the kind of school who really would compare two students coming from the same school. It seems as if Caltech would judge each of them individually; however, just because Caltech is so selective it seems unlikely that many schools have very many students who would be accepted at Caltech.

my school got 3 in last year ( we have 50 semis and 70 commended merits this year)
only 1 ended up going though. we get about 2-4 in every year

yeah, but seems like your school is really competitve.........50 semis....

There are at least 2 schools here represented by 3 people (for 2011). Competitive or not, but Caltech definitely does not have a quota on how much students they accept from any given school.

My DD2's high school have 3 attending Caltech as freshman this year.

semis doesn't say much though since 2 out of the 3 accepted weren't even semis. so yeah
but they all had great math stuff
