Question...

When I checked the status of my application today...

"Application Type Regular
Common Application 01/10/2008
Harvard Supplement 01/04/2008
Recommendation Letters Not received
Secondary School / Dean's Report Not received"

But I already sent in the recommendations and secondary reports more than two weeks before the due date. Is this a problem or are they still sorting through the mail?

they are likely still sorting it. don't worry about it.

And remember that even if you sent them in two weeks early, colleges had winter break around then, so they didn't have those full two weeks to sort stuff out. Then they come back from break and find a huge pile of applications. Poor little admissions people.

If they aren't there in a month, THEN you worry. Most likely if there is really something missing, the college will email you.

yes, yes, winter break.
Check again after Jan, then contact them. Usually, schools will contact you in mid Feb if they haven't received something, i think.

No worries, i had the same problem, but just yesterday it changed to "Received", should change for you anytime soon, relax :)

Do most schools contact you if something is missing or do some simply reject/waitlist you if a necessary item is missing?

They will contact you probably around Feb. if anything is still missing, and give you a reasonable amount of time to get the materials together and resend them. (Penn, the school I applied to, had me fax a copy over immediately, and mail the original)

I just checked today again, and they said they received everything! WHEEE! HURRAH!
