Question.

my son's friend told him that she got into deerfield and philips exeter already. does that make sense? we are new to the whole boarding school thing were wondering.

That may or may not be the truth. Although many kids have contacts at the admissions office from what I know, so they get alerted earlier, even if it is against the rules, like a brat I met days ago, bragging that he got into Milton, that loser! Well from what I have heard about him his family is in the "Milton Inner Circle", hate them! So that could possibly be a reeason as to why she knows so early, I doubt it though, could it be that she was lying?

My son found out early, too. However, I find it hard to believe that someone would hear from two tier I schools early....unless there is something truly exceptional (other than grades and SSAT's) about this person.

thanks for the clarification, and it is very possible that she is lying, considering he didn't know she was applying to those schools, and that he got this news in a text message. [they don't live in the same town.]

Well that is suspicious.......to the verdict that she most likely is lying! lol
Text-Message? lol

I think soccermama is saying that her son's friend texted him with the news, not that the schools texted the acceptances.

well well well. her aunt works at exeter and she said that her aunt told her. and she said her friend from deerfield told her she got in, but that didn't make sense to her, or my son. she said she didn't believe him.
the part that confuses me the most is that she said she loves her public school and doesn't want to attend either.

keylyme, you are correct! sorry for not making that clear. haha.

did he maybe mean that he was absolutely sure that he did get in? sounds dubious but you never know. As for milton.. is it part of any organization aussie? If it isn't it wouldn't really be breaking any rules.

Ummm, what do you mean by organization?

By inner cicrcle, I mean that his daddy gives money, A LOT OF MONEY.....and they have no current children there.....they just want in...

Giving money....even enough to have your name on a building....does not guarantee admission. I believe others have posted on this.

Really? I thought you always got in if your family got in, hmmm, I wonder if it wasn't his dads money, how did he get in?

I sure hope he isn't reading this, but oh well, Im sure he doesn't like me...hahahahahaha

He is not anything excepetional, he is on that average rank and a couple of years in lacrosse....how did he get into Milton?

Could he have gotten in of his own merit, by chance? I do think that, if he had "acceptable" stats for the school, the fact that his family are substantial donors could be the "special" thing that sets him apart. I just don't think you could be a dolt and get in just because of money/legacy.
There is actually a very well known person whose son did not get in to a tier 1 school recently (even though the father had gone there). Just goes to show. I don't want to name names, because you never know who reads these boards.

What do you mean by merit?
This got me thinking of people who go on to read posts but never make an account.....just to see if they can find someone...I wonder if this has happened...

Keylyme will you tell me in pm?

By his own "merit", I meant his own credentials (maybe he had good grades, etc.)

Ohhh, well to my knowledge he has not recieved any special awards. But Ill find out tomorrow what are his grades and GPA, ill post it to see what you say.
