Question

What happens to the kids who show up to I Day that can't fully pass the PRT?

Youd think they'd have enough time to get ready.

Nothing. You don't take a PRT until the end of plebe summer and you run so much running most people pass the one at the end just fine.

The Permit to Report is slightly deceiving on this, it reads, "Upon arrival, a PRT will be administered... At the end of Plebe Summer and during each semester, each Mid is required to pass the PRT. ... Failure to pass the PRT will result in separation from the Naval Academy."

If you fail a PRT you will do what's called "remedials." Most people fail because of the run so people on remedials have 40 or 50 minute runs every day. There really isn't an excuse for failing a PRT. The standards are pretty rediculous.

Here are the lowest minimum passing numbers:

Men

10:30 Run (1.5 mile)
65 Sit ups (in 2 minutes)
45 Push ups (in 2 minutes)

Women

12:40 Run
65 Sit ups
20 Push ups

You will not be kicked out during plebe summer for not being able to pass a PRT but it will make your summer that much harder. Being in good shape and not getting injured is probably the best thing you can do for yourself prior and during plebe summer.

Lots of running gets accomplished over plebe summer-
a wise plebe will wear a fairly new- but broken in- pair of running shoes on their feet when they report in for I-Day.....

Seriously though, if you can't pass the prt, and you aren't injured, you have no right to be in the military.

agreed .
