Question

Hi, my name is Paul and I have been nominated to go the Military Academy, and I have a question. Can cadets at West Point have tattoos? Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's been a few years, but as I can remember, yes--as long as they aren't visible while in uniform and as long as they are identified during your medical exam for DODMERB. I do remember that if you get a tattoo after your exam and do not report it that is a big problem. Things may have changed since our cadet went through the process.

Here is a link to a prior discussion about tattoos:

I believe the policy is still the same.

The tatto policy is what is posted in the link; however, the BTO/Comm. has opened the policy a little to allow cadets to get them as cadets too, just as long as they are covered by one's PT shorts and T-shirt.

Well I want to get a Latin phrase tattooed on the side of my chest with the English translation on the other side. It will be covered by PT shirts and shorts, so I don't need to worry, right? I mean I don't want to spend like $200 or more just to have to get it removed.

How about since you haven't done it yet, not to? Wait til you are 21 and if you still want it, then do it. I've seen a ton of tattooed kids w/ "buyer's remorse."

Im pretty sure I wont have "buyers remorse" because its my teams motto and it means a lot to my personal heritage, since it is the national motto of Scotland.
