Question

(Feeling) that the committee (had) (too hastily) decided several important issues, Councilman Chambers (asked for) further consideration be given to his colleague's proposal.

What is wrong with asked for?

One asks for a noun; one asks that [noun] [“be” (if passive)] [subjunctive tense].

I’ll offer three typical examples:

“He asks for a house.” Type 1: noun as direct object

“He asks that Bob give a house.” Type 2: clause as direct object; active voice

“He asks that Bob be given a house.” Type 3: clause as direct object; passive voice

Thanks silverturtle.
