I'm attending a community college and my current GPA is 3.10. I was looking to transfer to PSU, UPENN, and UMIAMI. Ok to make story short i have a "D" in my transcript but that D was at my first semester at CC and does not count as a transferable credit because it was a basic course. I took my placement test and they put me in Elementary Algebra so those credits for that course don't count as transferable nor to graduation for my Associates. But i have a doubt even if I get all A's for the remaining of my courses will that D look bad in my transcript when i transfer since it was a basic course??? I got that D b/c at the time i was having family issues n i missed a couple of days n didn't do well in my last exam.

Depends on the course. A “D” in Calculus 1 as an engineering major is…looked down upon.

Explain the circumstances in “Additional Information”

Also, I’m not sure your stats are high enough =/ No chance at UPenn, As for PSU or UMiami you need some hook, a convincing story, ECs, great essays and such to make up for your GPA.I’m pretty sure transfer application deadlines have passed as well.

Yeah, I’ve got to agree with Michaelungerr there. Your grades just don’t match up to Penn’s standards. That D will be hard for you, and will make Miami and Penn State weary of taking you. What you should do if you want to go to those places is apply as a junior transfer and work your but off. You really need to show that that one grade was an abnormality, and that you’re a good student who can get A’s or A-'s in the rest of their classes. You really should also add some safeties to your list. With that D, applying only Penn State and Miami is a huge bet that could backfire horribly for you if you lose.
