Question!

Hey, I'm a student at Clemson and I'm looking into ways to get our student body more involved and enthusiastic about soccer.

I was looking at the NCAA attendance and couldn't notice your amazing numbers for soccer games. Is there a secret to getting all those people there? How do you manage to get all those people (I'm assuming a good bit are students) in the stands? Is there any reason other than the fact that they win? haha

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Our DS goes to the games, but I think he does because they have intra-mural soccer, so the traditional kid who typically goes to FB games now also goes to soccer games.

I know that the dorms have their own teams.

i have heard that they have put bleachers behind the goal and made it a student section. the students turn it into a party atmosphere and heckle the opposing goalie with chants. It’s turned into the fun place to be when the team plays. Expecting a win each time doesn’t hurt either.

Yes, there are bleachers behind each goal which is where the students sit and call themselves “The Crew.” We chant, sing, and heckle the opposing goalie nonstop for 90 minutes. It’s incredibly fun. You don’t even have to like soccer to have fun.

UMD is known for being a school that loves to taunt the opposing team. A couple of yrs ago, I think it was a Duke game, they all had face masks of a player and everytime he went to take a shot they put them up.

They also find out where the opposing team is staying and will call them all night long at the hotel. They are pretty hardcore when it comes to the athletics at UMDCP.

I have never visited Clemson, so I don’t know the campus, but it also might be a logistics thing from where the dorms are situated. If it is a pain in the butt to go, than kids won’t go.
