I got a composite ACT score of 36, yet my essay apparently only received 06 points out of 12.

Is there any way to check the reasoning behind such a score? I don't believe that my essay would be so horrible-- could there have been an error?

there is usually a 1 sentence comment on your essay... but essays are usually not important, but i know, i got a 6 last time too and it was annoying bc my essay was decent.

yea i got an 6 too. last time i got a 9 and a 35...weird. and all it says is that i needed more examples, but i thought my essay was at least an 8.

I got an 8 and it dropped my writing score from a 34 to a 31 D:
It says "Your essay adequately supported general statements with specific reasons, examples, and details."

Does anyone know if colleges pay a lot of attention to the combined writing/essay score? I really hope it's not as big of a deal :T

i got a 32 then a six on the writing....I made an opinion supported it and even showed a counter argument and refuted it. (just like it says on the act web site) and I got an 8 on the sat writing

Very interesting. My D received a 36 on the English section, but only a 6 on the writing portion. Two of her friends who also took the Sept. test received sixes as well. Both are very top-notched students like my D. All three were extremely surprised at the low score.

I know what you mean. I dropped from a 34 to a 32, with a 9 essay. My friend (not a top student at all, very low SATs and everything) received an 11 on the essay. It's pretty surprising.
