Questionaire

what is it for? does it enhance your admissions?

You're going to have to provide a lot more details. What questionnaire? For whom? What do they ask? Who asks it?

I remember a thread about this questionnaire last year. I don't think anyone reached a conclusive answer, but I recall that some suggested it had to do with if you were "on the fence" and they wanted more info. Others said maybe it was just for statistical analysis...no idea. But it is not something that everyone receives.

when you say "on the fence" do you mean between spring and fall or just getting in because my friend and i got the questionnaire and we got into fall

but then again we wouldnt know

I haven't seen anything about who is chosen for spring as opposed to fall as opposed to rejected. Does anyone have any valid sources of information about that? I guess I could start another thread, but it came up in this one.

it says i have to get a recommendation. And I need to do it by Feb. 3rd. Do you think i have a better chance of getting in?

hmm this is very interesting..can you post your stats (if you don't mind)? I thought I was borderline too with just a decent GPA and below average SATs, so I'm kinda curious as to why I didn't recieve this email. I understand that I am no judge of what "borderline" is, but I wanna see UCB's definition. Your stats might help me.

what is it?? i did not get any questionaire?!!!

are you from california?

my stats kinda stink. 3.7 GPA and a 2040 SAT, but i guess a lot of extracurriculars

so..you are from california?

yes. I am, why?

Just wondering, since I'm curious what they mean by "borderline" and your residency has a lot to do with admissions for UCs. thanks.

i dont remember having to get a recommendation, maybe i'm thinking about a different thing...like the financial audit..i forget

does it ask for your first semester grades?

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. Though, to my disappointment, I haven't recieved a questionaire :(. My SATIs are a bit lower (650M 650M, 660CR 620W, 590W 660W), but my SATIIs are a bit higher (800MII 750BioM 700USH). GPA is not bad, though, 4.24W and 3.84UW with rank of 2/480. As an in-state, I think I still have a chance, considering my extended research in both Neuropsychology and Alternative Energies. My mechanically-related extracurriculars have also led to the patenting of thirteen of my inventions. Thus my extracurriculars are well above the average, my grades are probably average, and my SATs are below average. Hope these combine to my favor in the admissions process -- I just hope that they are still considering me :S. After all, I'm just about as borderline as the thread starter.

i just got it today. does it mean you're a "borderline" applicant? if thats the case i think it would kinda make sense. i have a 3.75 UC gpa with 2040 sat and 790/640 sat 2s but i have lots of ECs, esp. in music. im assuming they wanna know more about my ECs.

btw this is what's in the e-mail:

Thank you for applying to UC Berkeley for the fall semester 2006! We are writing to request that you provide us with additional information by filling out an on-line questionnaire.

Each year during our application review process, we ask a small number of applicants to supplement their application information. Our goal is to learn more about you and your academic experience, particularly as related to your extracurricular involvement and level of achievement in the special skill area or talent mentioned in your application. This could include achievement in the arts, dance, drama, debate, athletics, etc.

Here's some information.

I applied to CoE...

No letter yet, but simillar stats (bit lower SAT I and higher SATIIs). My ECs are pretty unique, though (primarily research).

Please do inform your college and state of residency.

Are you 100% sure that only borderline applicants get the supplemental questionnaire?
