Questions about Accounting Minor and the Difficulty of Mathematics/Economics B.S.

Hey, I just submitted my SIR to UCLA over UCB, and I'm completely stoked.

I'm currently designated as a Mathematics/Economics major, and I've spent the last hour or so looking through the requirements for Math-Econ, Business-Econ, and the Accounting Minor.

Right now - and I know it's early to start mapping out my future - I'm interested in either a career in Finance or pursuing graduate Economic studies and becoming involved in government. I'm planning on majoring in Mathematics/Econ. with an Accounting Minor (provided I get into the latter).

What I'm wondering is whether or not the Accounting minor is difficult to get into, and what exactly does it entail (The Accounting minor page on ucla.edu doesn't actually spell our the course requirements, only the prerequesities).

Also, how hard is a Math/Econ major compared to Business-Econ? I assume it's more difficult, but I'm not sure. (On a side note, I took the Calculus BC exam as a junior and received a 5, I don't know if that helps you guage my ability at all). Would Math/Econ be more desirable for finance careers, or would I be better off in UCLA's Business-Econ program?

I know that's a lot...but thanks for all the help.

Math/Econ vs Biz econ.. not sure which one is harder but biz-econ has a pre-biz-econ thing, meaning that it is competitive to get into, DHL3 can tell you all about it.

For the Accounting Minor, you need a minimum 3.2 GPA in the pre-requisite classes to be considered for admission. Getting a 3.2 in your pre-reqs doesn't guarantee admission though. The average pre-req GPA for students admitted into the minor is 3.5. More info on the Accounting Minor here: UCLA Anderson School of Management | Accounting Minor

For finance careers, both Math-Econ and Biz Econ will serve you well. If you're also considering going to grad school for econ, then Math-Econ might be better, because graduate programs in economics require a heavy math background (you can also do Biz Econ with a Math Minor, if you prefer).
