Questions about ACT scores

I took my S to a "Spend the summer Day" at UP a couple of months ago. I noticed at the event and in other university posts that the middle 50 ACT scores appear to be significantly higher than the middle 50 AAT scores. While I understand that the construct of the 2 teats are completely different, most universities have conversion charts that have comprable scores.

MY S has a weighted GPA in excecess of a 4.0, numerous ec's ( varsity sports,NHS, community services, etc ) He also is more than willing to start his education in the summer. I also have noticed that according to Businessweek that the average ACT score for 2009 was a 27 at Smeal. My son also scored a 27 on his exam which puts him in the lower portion of the middle 50 according to UP's middle 50 rangeof 26-30. At "Spend a Summer Day", the university staff said that Smeal applicants should really be in the higher end ranges for both grades and test scores to gain admittance.

Here are my questions for those of you that may want to share yor thoughts :

What are my S's chances as he really wants to go to PSU ?

Would they possibly accept him as a general admit and thus require that he gets at least a 3,2 to eventually migrate into Smeal ( this would be a real downer to hold this over his head).

Thanks for any thoughts that you all might have..... yes, my son is an oos student.... Congrats to JoePA on # 400. What a thrill !!!

I had a 27 act composite and got into summer session. Does he had a high math sub score? I has a 32

He actually screda 28 on Math on that test, but did scorea 32 on a previous test. THe composite however was only a 26. His scores are all across the map.

Look for act to sat converters Nd then check out the bubble chart here on this forum. Id say he has a great chance

Thanks PSUfan… sorry that I am atilltle slow on the acronyms, but can you tell me what ND stands for. I have seen the bubble charts and think that his conversion is positive.

Pretty sure he meant and

Yea I’m on my itouch and typing is a bit difficult

After I looked back and saw all my typos on my previous messages I considered going back to school myself. You would never know that I have a BA and an MS with all the mistakes I have made. Thanks again.
