So I am currently signed up for 3 classes, one in which I don't really want to take (history 9d) I would like to replace this class with english comp 3 ( a prerequisite I need to fill soon) Here are my questions:
the english comp class that fits in my schedule is wait listed. There will be a total of 25 people in the discussion, and I will be the FIRST waitlisted. Are the chances there that 1 person drops out of the class (you would assume they're prettty low since its 25 students) or do you think perhaps they'll just let me in? When will I know? Do I just go ahead and buy all the books and such for the class, or will they tell me before the first week of school?

Next question, should I just remain in the history class AND sign up for the wait listed english class? This way if it never becomes an open class, I can always drop it and I still have my history class. When is the last day to drop a class?

I am obviosuly an incoming freshman :)
sorry for all the questions
thanks ahead of time though!

btw, I just noticed that signing up for four 5unit classes would exceed the unit cap.
So now the question is, should I drop the history class for he waitlisted english comp class?

I would go ahead and sign up for the waitlist for the English class. If there are only one or two people on the waitlist most profs will let those people in. Stay in your history class just to be safe though until you know for sure that you can get into English Comp 3.

I don’t know. It depends on the teacher. My Eng Comp 3 class my freshman year, nobody dropped and the teacher would not take anyone in. She was complaining, actually, that 25 students is too big for an english class. So it depends on your teacher, I wouldn’t bank on it. Especially since it’s one of those classes you have to take. Your only other option is to take it at a cc, maybe. I think they let you transfer the course over, so don’t expect people to be dropping. For my class, the two people on the waitlist who really wanted in showed up on the first day, teacher asked if anyone planned or was considering dropping, we all said no, and she sent the two kids away. Even when one bought the reader which is only good for that specific teacher, that class, that quarter. I suggest staying in the history class and email the professor who is teaching the EC3 you want. Explain why you can’t enroll in the course and ask what her policy is on letting students in over the cap should nobody drop. Granted, you risk other people signing up but I think it’s a bigger risk to drop out of a class you have a spot in.
