Questions about admission.... (NOT a chance thread)

1 ) I have a question about Columbia, I was looking at college board and these were the popular majors :

* Engineering: 23%
* Social Sciences: 22%
* English: 8%
* History: 7%
* Area and Ethnic Studies: 5%
* Foreign Languages and Literature: 5%
* Visual and Performing Arts: 5%

I was planning on majoring in Psychology & Poli Sci. and looks like less then 5% of students major in Psych. - would it help me since the major isn't as popular ??? ( i know some schools look at that)

2) How much does RACE play in admissions ? I'm mixes (half Indonesian , half Welsh)

3) On their Supplementary app, there's a section about how long you've lived in the U.S. ; I've only lived in the U.S. for 7 years -- would that work for or against me ?

I know grades/SATs are really important - but I'm just curious about these other things.

1) Psych is usually considered a social science. It's a pretty popular major. Also, that's a retarded breakdown of majors. Of course engineering will be up there, there's a whole school dedicated to it.

2) Depends on who you ask and if you try and use it for anything (ie in your essay)

3) Again depends on if you try and say it's something that has shaped you. If you dont, it will probably be ignored.
