Questions about AP credit and FLR

D got her AP scores today and according to the CLAS website will get credit for PLAP 1000T and ENGL 1000T (plus BC calc but that credit has no ambiguity). What I am confused about is the statement at the bottom on the area requirements page that says "Courses designated as 1000T are equivalencies determined by the College of Arts & Sciences. These courses are considered elective credit and do not satisfy this requirement." This statement makes me think that her ENGL 1000T credit does not fulfill 3 of the 6 credit requirement towards humanities that are in the area reqs. However, the location of that quote at the end of the page makes it unclear if that applies only to the Math and Science AQs or if it is referring to all AQs.

Secondly, she took the Spanish online exam with 5 min of studying for it and got a 928. It says anything over something like a 500 gets you out of Spanish 2020 and the FL requirement. So my Q is: she didn't take AP Spanish (just 4 years) and so didn't think to take the AP or SAT II test. Is there any way to get credit for Spanish and not just be exempted? (like a proctored test on campus???)

Congrats on getting out of the language requirement. I’d be surprised if there is a way to get UVa credit for Spanish at this point.

Let’s start with the Spanish question first:
No, you can only receive college credit by taking the AP exam.

In regards to the English credit, was it for AP Language or AP Literature?

It was Lit.
In Lang her 4 wasn’t enough for credit.

In past years a 5 on the English AP did fulfill the ‘literature’ component of the humanities area requirement. In addition to giving her 3 college ‘transfer’ credits.
