Questions about applying for FA

Hi,

I'm a homeschooled international applying to some American colleges this autumn, and I would like to ask some questions about applying for FA:

-When should I apply for FA (I mean, in which time-frame can I apply)? Is it just in January, and, if I apply for FA, does that mean I can't later decide to defer admission for a year?

-My parents are divorced; what evidence of this do I need?

-Is it only my mother, not me, who needs to fill in and sign all the forms? I ask because (at least for part of January) I might be living with my sister in England while my mum is staying overseas; this is because I'm applying to some British universities too and I definitely don't want to lose eligibility for the home fees for UK students.

-Between which dates does my mother need to provide details of her income, and what evidence of her income between those dates (she's always been self-employed; we never had an accountant, though) does she need to provide?

-How do I re-apply for FA each year?

Thanks.

The application available in January is the FAFSA. As an international student you are not eligible to file FAFSA and you are not eligible for any federal aid. You will need to check with the schools you are interested in to see what their policies are for financial aid for International students and what forms they require. Although FAFSA (which you are not eligible for) only requires the information of the custodial parent, other types of financial aid applications (such as CSS) may require both parents information even though your parents are divorced. This will mean they require the financial information from both your Mom (and spouse if she has one) and your Dad (and spouse if he has one).
