Questions about Applying (read: help needed, desperately)

If any of you can answer the questions I have below, I would be so grateful! This applying to college process is rather mind-boggling…

Rice no longer has the teacher recommendation form online. Does this mean that my teacher will have to print out a letter him/herself? Did they cancel this form for this section?

Also, the application checklist online does not say that it requires a counselor recommendation. Is this true?

I received an email saying that my application fee was waived (due to the PSAT score, etc.). How do I indicate this on the Common Application online?

How important are AP scores? I received a 2 on the APUSH test (I accidentally skipped 27 questions - bubbling problems). Will this affect my admission? Or will they just be happy that I will have to pay for those classes (hah)?

Thank you!

I feel the love...

You still need to have one teacher and one counselor rec. Just use the common application forms. Your AP score won't help, but I'm not sure how much it will actually hurt.

I have no clue as to the app. fee.

Have you called the admission office? I bet that your fee waiver is already in their system somehow, so no problem for you!

This application year, Rice will now use the common app exclusively. So you'll use the teacher rec form from the common app website.

The counselor recommendation falls under the school report, which you need to submit.

There will be, at some point on the application, something about payment. There's a box that you check if you are using a fee waiver.

Depends on the rest of your application, and your other PSAT scores. If you have a slew of 5s on the rest of your APs, they'll be more likely to look over your 2. Also, you pay by semester, not by credit hour, so Rice doesn't gain money if you have to take an extra class or two.

I have a question - what school report are you talking about? Will my counselor know this?

(I'm sorry for all these annoying questions - your answers have been very helpful so far, so thank you! [: )

Have you looked at the Common Application? Do that before you ask any more questions.

Sorry for invading your thread but how do you apply for this waiver?

I didn't apply for it. Rice sent me an email. It was surprising, but quite nice.

Really? I know a friend who got a 240 on the PSAT, and he just told me he hasn't gotten anything from Rice in terms of fee waivers.

I got an e-mail for the fee waiver too. I think it's because I listed Rice as one of my two choices for the National Merit thingy.

I listed Rice as one of my two choices too but I didnt get an email for a fee-waiver. :(

You can always call the Admissions Office and ask them about the possibility of extending one to you.

Would they give me a fee-waiver for National Merit even if i don't qualify for one becasue of my financial situation?

I don't know what their parameters are for the fee waivers other than my son received one because he designated Rice as one of the schools to receive his PSAT scores for national merit semifinalist purposes. His fee waiver was not based on financial need.
